On Thursday evening, West Kirby’s Women’s institute meeting got creative with creatively recycling old clothes. I developed a new workshop to create a brooch using the proddy or proggy rag rugging technique in a short space of time by creating a fabric flange or doughnut shape which had three roles – helping to contain the tufted creations, hemming the hessian and giving a consistent edge that allowed the fluffy creations to be attached to the hand crafted back made from a vinyl banner. Lots of prep time to cut and sort fabric, develop the logistics but the costs to create each piece were minimal – 2 brads or split pins and safety pins.

Many thanks to OLA for being my helper and photographer.
